closet organize singapore

Hope you had a fun Christmas long weekend! Most of you may be still working but may be already pondering upon the CNY plan :)

But before that, let us all face it.

Yes, the month of January 2016 is the time for Spring Cleaning. It’s the good time to review your space, get some work done, and prepare for the new year!

Today I’m sharing 7 top questions to assess your current closet. I use those questions often, I know more or less how you would react. You usually start nodding with your eyes going upwards, then go through the questions with a bitter smile. Believe or not, I saw many women did the same and love to see yours.

OK, let us start.

1. Do you recall all the wardrobes inside your closet?

The Pareto Law applies in your closet, too. You wear 20% of your entire wardrobe for most of the the time (80% of the time). Thus many of your dress or T-shirts collection are forgotten. If you can count the number of your wardrobes, please go out for post-Christmas sale!

2. Is your closet filled with something but you don’t know what to wear?

Your husband or boyfriend(s) have heard this right before you were going out.

(You, as opening your closet door or walking into the walk-in closet) “Uhhh, I don’t have anything to wear!!!”

(Your partner) “Honey, you HAVE clothes hanging right in front of you. What do you mean by saying you don’t have anything to wear? How about that black dress?”

(You) “No, I wore this before when we went to the restaurant./No, this is bit tight for me now.”

(Your partner) “Oh, then how about the pink dress? I really like that one.”

(You) “No, I think I had a small scratch somewhere so I don’t want to wear it./No, I need that bra to wear this dress because others would show, and I haven’t washed that bra yet.”

… sounds familiar?

3. Still some store-tags on the clothes?

This is somewhat contrary to the previous question. That you open your closet and same goes “Uhhh, I don’t have anything to wear!” but when you start explore your wardrobes, you find unfamiliar dress that you bought 3 months ago and you totally forget about that one. And when you take out that dress, you still see a store tag hanging there (and usually it has a red coloured mark-down).

4. Do you tend to buy similar designs, colours or silhouettes?

Well, actually there is nothing wrong with that. You have your style, that’s it. The problem arises when you keep adding the similar designs, colour or silhouettes. That turns your closet “you have clothes but nothing to wear” situation or “you have different clothes all the times but giving impression to the people around you that you have same-like clothes” tragedy. The colours have certain phycological images to give out and people may carry wrong image around you due to the colour of the wardrobe you select to your workplace.

5. Do you find wrinkles on your wardrobes due to over packing?

This happens when you overload your closet. Usually, the wrinkle run from left top to right bottom. Or sometimes you find your top slipped out from a hanger and got crumpled at the bottom of your closet. You are lucky if you find your dress also slipped out from the hanger but hanging there thanks to the overloading of your wardrobes (i.e. the dress didn’t have space to fall down and still there sandwiched with other dresses).

6. Do you see any suspicious items at the back of your hanging clothes or bottom of your closet?

Okay, I know the question sounds bit awkward that you have suspicious items at your home. But if you have nodded so far or start having bitter smiles on your face with above questions, please go to your bedroom and open your closet. Push your way through the wardrobes and you see a crinkled something or old scarves packed in a paper bag.

7. Do you get excited when you open your closet?

And lastly but not least, this question is a good one to take some moment for you and think about your wardrobes. You maybe a full-time working mother and don’t have the luxury to do this. You maybe a young corporate executive worked till late last night and need to rush to your office after the short sleep. But you all know the feeling that if you picked a wrong wardrobe you feel uncomfortable through the day, and vice versa that if you carefully chose a perfect outfit for the day you feel great, confident and happy. Having said that, it’s not overstating that when you feel good when you open your closet in the morning, your day will be a good one.

How many out of 7 questions you found relevant for you? I hope I didn’t make you feel you bad. The year 2015 is ending very soon and it’s a good time to reflect and plan for the new year. I have shared tips for your closet organising such as why we need it or inexpensive organising tips using Daiso items in this blog and hope they help :)

May the force be with you!!!
