[:en]Whether you use steamer or microwave, food containers are one of the must-haves when you cook at home. While I love the looks of “Noda Horo” (porcelain enamelware made by a Japanese family company for over 70 years), they won’t most likely be my first choice as food containers. The reason is simple. I NEED TO SEE WHATS INSIDE!

MUJI has similar looking containers as well but again, they won’t be my choice either… But they are highly recommended for those who really care about how their fridge looks and/or those who can clearly remember what’s inside. I have seen people using these beautiful white containers but using post-it to indicate inside. If you don’t mind taking extra time like that, yes, they are really beautiful and hard working.
But for me, simple plastic containers will do.
For my daily use, I use the round shape for small use, but when I’m expecting guests, I tend to use the rectangular ones for their size and shape. Since they are all same size, it’s easy to organise my fully stored fridge prior to my guests’ arrival.
While there are many varieties in size for those containers out there, the bigger, the better. And that way you don’t need to think about the space or which one to use.
Good thing about these plastic containers is that they are light in weight so they are easy to store basically anywhere. I have this space above my head but right behind my kitchen counter top. I use 2 same Daiso plastic baskets with handles. Thanks to the handles, I can take them out easily.
A gold rule for organisation: store light weight items above and heavy ones below. It may sounds too general but I’ve see many people not following this rule and making their lives unnecessarily tiring (taking out heavy cooking pots from your shoulder level everyday while you have space around your waist level, for example). The light weight plastic baskets and the containers made this space perfect place for them.
But be careful with is depth/length. Do measure till the end of the handle by yourself to avoid you a tragedy that you cannot close the cupboard door. They have sized written but sometimes only for the container part not the handles.
