[:en]Continued from previous post.

How many mixing bowls and pots & skillets do you have in you kitchen? You may have a few favorites or piles of them behind that cabinet doors. Well, no matter how much you have, we all know it is best to put things where we use them. Now close your eyes and picture some items that you use every day. Where do you store them? Do they stay where they should be? If you say yes, that’s great.

But If you (or your helper) are one of those who run throughout the kitchen when you cook, or can’t even remember where they are, the tendency is that people put things “tentatively/just for now” after exhausted from piles of wrapping papers when moving into a new place or coming back from a day-long shopping, and later these “just for now items” stay there until you move out.

My mixing bowls sit under the sink as I use them often to wash vegetables. I also put drainers and flower vases there. For me, these are all water-related items. With the same rule, my pots & skillets sit under the grill as fire-related items.

I cook almost everyday for my family and I usually have a 3-year old bothering helping me, and thus efficiency (and safety) is critical when I’m in my kitchen. One of my friend said that she does the same for layout but put a pasta pot under the sink. She put water directly from the tap then carry the pot to the grill. Hmmm.

If you want extra exercise, it may be fun to move side by side or back and forth to grab a bowl. But not for me after a long day. If you are with me, try to select your hard-working tools and put them where you think they should be and see how much you can enjoy the cooking, not the extra exercise.
